Sensorcon is developing/manufacturing high performance electrode materials for ultracapacitors.
Ultracapacitors (also known as supercapacitors or Electric Double Layer Capacitors, EDLCs) are recognized as being the best technology for high power high energy applications, with performance between batteries and traditional capacitors.
Existing ultracapacitors utilize activated carbons to generate high capacitance, but their capacitance decreases dramatically with increasing current density. Carbon nanotubes have been reported in numerous studies to perform better at high current densities, but their cost and processing issues have limited their use.
Sensorcon is working to offer cost effective carbon nanotube electrodes for ultracapacitors, with carbon nanotubes that are specifically designed for this application.
In addition to ultracapacitors, CNTs manufactured by Sensorcon are particularly useful for improving the power and energy density of electrodes in many types of batteries.
